SYSTEM APPROACH TO TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF ARD
USING HOMEOPATHIC PREPARATIONS |

Homeopathic methods of treatment of acute respiratory diseases (ARDs) and their
most typical complications have been known for a long time but seldom used in
practical healthcare. Therefore, it is still necessary to develop ARD therapies
using homeopathic preparations. They can be most useful for outpatient practice
of family physicians, generalists, paediatricians, and medical specialists.
Solving it would reduce the unjustifiably frequent administration of antibacterial
therapies, sulphonamides, febrifuges etc. and would significantly reduce
the risk of side effects of conventional drug treatment. Having studied the
indications and formulas of mixed homeopathic products registered in Russia,
we chose preparations that can be prescribed for syndromes typical for ARD.
As our study has shown, there was no common concept or system approach in the
development of the registered formulas, and this complicates their combined
or consecutive application for ARD prevention and treatment. Consequently, we
developed complex homeopathic mixes and methodologies that solve the problem
of prevention and treatment of ARDs and their typical complications generally.
According to our systematic approach and as witnessed by practice of ARD treatment,
we regarded this group of diseases as different phases of an inflammatory
process in the respiratory system. Based on the existing knowledge of the typical
symptoms, syndromes and most frequent clinical complications of ARD, we formed
main groups of homeopathic drugs using step-by-step repertorisation of selected
symptoms and syndromes. The main group and the subgroups of preparations were
formed following the analysis of a database of more than 3,500 homeopathic monopreparations
and more than 100,000 headings of symptoms and syndromes using modern specialised
computer programmes (RADAR, EH, CARA Professional, MacRepertory, etc.), including
our proprietary Homeopathic DAR software, which currently has the largest database
in this field. Thus, we selected a group of single-component homeopathic
drugs permitted for use in the Russian Federation. This work has been carried
out for the last 10 years. For instance, the analysis based merely on temperature
rise (fever) as one possible ARD symptom was carried out among 511 monopreparations
by 1017 headings of symptoms that can be related to or concurrent with fever
in various phases of ARD. As the result, more than eighty monopreparations were
chosen as consistent with typical indications. They were broken down into groups
corresponding to the following indications: Indication: ARD accompanied by general
intoxication syndrome occurring in the form of a non-specific defence
reaction with fever, pain syndrome, qualms, diarrhoea, excessive sweating, etc.
Indication: ARD complicated by acute rhinosinusitis (rhinitis, frontal sinusitis
etc.) Indication: ARD complicated by acute tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis,
lymphadenitis, stomatitis, ulitis, alveolysis. Indication: ARD complicated by
acute inflammation of hearing organs (otitis, eustachitis). Indication:
ARD complicated by development of laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia.
Indication: ARD complicated by acute or recurrent conjunctivitis of diverse
origins. Indication: ARD complicated by development of acute or chronic inflammation
of pharyngeal tonsil promoting hyperplasia or hypertrophy of adenoid vegetations
(adenoids, adenoiditis) coupled with chronic forms of sinusitis (frontal sinusitis,
ethmoiditis, maxillary sinusitis etc). Indication: ARD suffered by patients
with chronic tonsillitis. Indication: ARD accompanied by development of paroxysmal
cough (pertussis, acute constrictive laryngot racheobronchitis, bronchial asthma).
Indication: frequent recurrent ARDs suffered by patients with reduced immune
response. We have filed a patent application for the developed formula
and method. The formula is manufactured and can be bought without prescription
in Doctor N homeopathic pharmacies (Moscow, Russia).
