THE EFFICACY OF KSEFOKAM USAGE IN PREVENTIVE ANALGESIA |
| M. Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University, Yerevan, Armenia |
Postoperative pain syndrome remains one of the actual problems connected to the insufficient analgesia. Preventive analgesia is considered as one of the several methods for the improvement of the efficacy of postoperative analgesia. This brings to the administration of low-dose non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs pre- or intraoperatively.
Aim. To evaluate the efficacy of intraoperatively administered Ksefokam in prevention of postoperative pain syndrome.
Material and methods. 34 patients were investigated, which underwent herniotomy in conditions of general anesthesia. 20 of patients were females, and 14 were males. Mean age compiled 57.6 ± 10.1 years.
With regard to the method of treatment of postoperative pain syndrome patients were divided into 2 groups: first group patients (n=17) were given Ksefokam 8mg IV 15 minutes prior to extubation; the patients of second group (n=17) were not treated with non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs. Patients of both groups were given Ksefokam 8mg q 2 q day IV during three days after the operation.
The intensity of pain was evaluated by VAS scale, the reliability of statistical data was evaluated by Student’s t-test.
Results. The intensity of pain during the first day after operation in the first group was 4 ± 0,48 byVAS scale and 5,1 ± 0,6 (p < 0,0001) in second group. During the second day those values compiled 2,2 ± 0,4 and 3,3 ± 0,7 (p < 0,0001), respectively. On the third day after operation the pain intensity lowered up to 0,8 ± 0,3 in first group and 1,5 ± 0,5 (p < 0,0001) in second group.
35% of patients of second group needed tramadol administration on the first postoperative day only, whereas no patient needed tramadol administration in the first group.
Discussion. Thus, during the first postoperative day the pain intensity in the first group patients was less by 22% in comparison to the second group patients, which yielded to the non-usage of opioids. During the second day the VAS value in first group was less of that in second group by 33%, and on third day – by 47%, respectively.
Conclusion. Ksefokam seemed to show high efficacy as a preventive medication in postoperative analgesia and lowers the usage of opioids. Thus, Ksefokam can be used as a preventive analgesic for the improvement of postoperative acute pain syndrome treatment during herniotomies.
